Cosmetic Dental Filling
Fillings are used to repair fractured or broken teeth as well as fix the teeth that have been worn down through abuse. One of the most common uses of fillings is to “fill” a section of the tooth that we have removed due to disease. Dental fillings are made of metals, polymers, glass, or other substances.
What materials are for dental fillings?
Dental filling materials consist of:
- Gold.
- Porcelain.
- Metallic amalgam (contains mercury mixed with silver, tin, zinc, and copper).
- Composite resin fillingsGlass Ionomer Fillings
Tooth-colored fillings
When it comes to small- to medium-sized fillings that must bear moderate pressure from the ongoing stress of chewing, Composite resins, often known as tooth-colored fillings offer good durability and resistance to fracture. Both the front and back teeth may benefit from their use. They are a fantastic option for those who desire a more natural-looking filling.
Cosmetic fillings have a number of advantages, the most important of which is how quickly they may be performed. The endurance of aesthetic fillings is an additional advantage. Cosmetic fillings can last you up to ten years under typical conditions.
What are indirect fillings?
Indirect fillings are comparable to composite or tooth-colored fillings, with the exception that they are created in a dental laboratory and need to be inserted over the course of two visits. When you don’t have enough dental structure to sustain a filling but your tooth isn’t too badly injured to require a crown, indirect fillings may be an option.

Procedure for Cosmetic filling
Preparation
Dental bonding requires nothing in the way of preliminary preparation. Anesthesia may not be required unless we need to treat tooth decay or if the cavity is close to a nerve. We will choose a composite resin hue that closely matches the tint of your tooth using a shade guide.
The fusing procedure
After the cavity preparation, the tooth surface is etched to enable the tooth to receive the filling. After this, the bonding material is applied.
Etching ensures that the bonding material adheres well to the tooth more after this process.
The bonding material is then hardened by using specific light, typically a blue or laser light. The tooth-colored resin is then applied, cured, shaped, and polished. Average bonding time for teeth.
Each tooth typically requires between 30 and 60 minutes to finish.
Benefits of composite material aesthetic dental bonding
- Cosmetic fillings are one of the simplest and most affordable cosmetic dental procedures
- Bonding can be finished in a single visit, as opposed to crowns and veneers, which need time to be customized in a lab.
- Additionally, bonding requires less tooth enamel to be removed than other techniques.
- The hue of the composite material is quite similar to the color of your natural teeth in terms of aesthetics.
- Composite can also be used on visible portions of teeth or to remove the gaps in the front teeth. The tooth structure and composite material link together rather well, giving more strength to the natural tooth.
- Composite fillings can be used to repair chipped, cracked, or worn teeth in addition to decaying teeth.
Dental care after Composite Fillings
After bonding, you do not need to have special care. You simply need to maintain good oral hygiene. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, using floss and antiseptic mouthwash regularly. In addition to this, you should also visit the dentist regularly to have check-ups and scaling done. The composite material may chip in a few conditions, so make sure you avoid bad habits such as biting your nails, chewing ice or eating hard foods, opening objects using your teeth, etc.
