Dental Implant

Teeth roots can be replaced with dental implants. Fixed (permanent) or removable replacement teeth that

are created to match your original teeth can be supported securely by implants. A dental implant is a structure that acts as a tooth replacement. We place an implant into the jawbone using tools that resemble screws; the implant serves as the anchor for a crown, which is a type of artificial tooth.

Why should I go for implants? There are other replacement options available

Yes, you are right about other replacement options but an implant is one of the most comfortable replacement options available. Here are a few advantages of implants over other forms of replacements

A natural appearance and a snug fit

Dental implants are made to mimic your natural teeth in terms of appearance, feel, and performance. Additionally, implants provide patients the self-assurance to smile, eat, and interact with others without being self-conscious or concerned that their dentures would fall out.

Reliable and durable

Implants have predictable results and last as long as traditional restorative procedures for teeth with proper care and maintenance.

A high rate of success

Dental implants with proper planning and maintenance typically have “survival rates” that are on par with or better than those of other tooth replacement solutions. The success rate of implants should also increase as implant technology and techniques do.

Better ability to chew and eat

Like natural teeth, dental implants are secured in your jawbone. They will eventually greatly lessen bone resorption and aid in maintaining the jaw bone. By using implants to replace missing teeth, you can improve your speech clarity and food chewing.

Better face and skeletal traits.

Dental implants maintain natural tooth tissue since they do not require the removal of nearby teeth as is required for traditional bridgework. Additionally, they will prevent bone from deteriorating and resorbing, which causes a decrease in jawbone height. Dental implants maintain natural tooth tissue, lessen bone resorption and degeneration that causes loss, and lessen the strain on the remaining oral structures. These factors all contribute to the restoration of your jawbone’s structural integrity.

Different types of implants

Endosteal

The most prevalent kind of dental implant is endosteal. The majority of patients can benefit from them, but they need a strong, healthy jawbone for the post to fuse to. They are shaped like screws and serve as stand-in posts. They insert into the jaw, which is where the false teeth are attached

After the surgery, the wound needs some time to heal. It needs time to come together and fortify itself. The false teeth can be attached to the post once it has healed so they blend in with the natural teeth.

Subperiosteal

Subperiosteal Implants are yet another variety of dental implants. The primary substitute for endosteal implants is this. Subperiosteal implants rest on top of the jawbone but are still buried beneath the gums, as opposed to being fixed into the jawbone. Under the gum, a metal frame with a post attached to it is positioned. Following that, the gum heals around the frame, holding it in place. The poles that protrude from the gum are used to hold the fake teeth in place.

Zygomatic

This method is only done when the patient’s jawbone is insufficient for implant placement or when the patient simply does not want to undergo extensive oral surgery to add bone to the area.

The least popular type of dental implant you can get is a zygomatic implant. The only time you should undergo this complex treatment is if your jawbone is insufficient to support an Endosteal implant. Instead of the patient’s jawbone, the implant is inserted into the cheekbone.

Instructions after implant placement

  • After surgery, wait 24 hours before rinsing or spitting.
  • Keep your tongue and fingers away from the surgery site and socket.
  • For the first 48 hours, place ice packs on the surgical side of the face
  • Take the medication as recommended to you
  • Drink a lot of water. (Never use a straw; the suction it causes in the mouth could lead to problems.)
  • We advise against smoking for at least five days following surgery.
  • Use a warm salt water rinse after meals for the first week following surgery to flush out any food or debris that might lodge in the surgical region.
  • The majority of the foods and beverages in your diet should be soft, easily digestible items. Don’t eat any foods with seeds, nuts, rice, popcorn, or anything else that could become trapped in your teeth
